We are blessed to have been in business for going on 33 years now! While still new to the hairdresser field, I was ambitious and not sure if I would succeed. But I went for it and now I can honestly say I've loved every minute of it! Sure, there have been many challenges along the way (equally as many rewards), but these experiences have all taught me that we can rise up to whatever the future may hold.
Did I say how much we love our clientele? Well, we do! They have been so loyal, and it's been such a pleasure to serve them - as well as our new and walk-in customers (prospective new clients!) who decide to come by and try us out. Many of our longstanding clients are also very dear family members and friends who have been so supportive, and have made our business possible. They have given so many wonderful referrals along the way. We couldn't be more grateful to them and for them. We cherish them.
Some have asked "why" the field of cosmetology? Well, it's like this...it's the joy, the glee, and the blessing in knowing I've managed to help in some small way to make others feel good about themselves, and to give some that "dream come true new do" they were hoping for. You see, many in my field have chosen the title of Hairstylist, Hairdresser, Salon Technician, Barber or Men's Stylist - and those are all fine titles, of course...dignified and descriptive titles for what we do; but as for me, well, I've learned over the years that I prefer "Hair Designer" since I believe that what we do isn't just another job to be done, it's a lovely form of art. It's that great big smile we can give to another who's just wanting a little spice, a little zing, a little change to add some pep to their step! It's a "getting to know you" work of he(art) - your unique design. I feel like I have an "opportunity" to "get" to know you maybe a little better than most - your appearance "likes" and "dislikes", that special shape of your face - the cut, the style that'll make you happy, that look that just might help you shine a little more for Jesus, for your loved ones, those other precious souls you encounter, and yes, and maybe even especially, for yourself!
It's been such a blessing as a successful local business woman to have been given so many excellent opportunities to provide leadership by example to not only the young and aspiring fellow cosmetolgists I've been honored to mentor over the years, but also to our three children (Aaron, Jen and KJ, my world - for whom, and in whose eyes, I have always hoped most to achieve success), by committing to help our community in ways that make a difference to others (e.g., by doing hairstyles for various fundraising events for community organizations and local school events, helping elderly and shut-in's unable to leave their homes, church youth groups, volunteering back-to-school children's haircuts through the Lion's Club, and the special honor of participating in several 5K races raising money and awareness for local cancer victims and their families).
Also, chief among my blessings (which I also very much count as 'personal' success) while working as your Hair Designer, has been the freedom I have enjoyed to be the kind of mom I've always wanted to be to my children - freedom to have them with me sometimes at my business - close by, after school and during school breaks/holidays. We've been blessed in how I am able to sometimes work personal/family/home obligations and needed quality time around the times our clients' convenience. I have often counted this particular "freedom blessing" a reason to celebrate and treasure what I do - it has meant so much to my family and me!
